The aim – to evaluate the level of galectin-3 along with clinical and instrumental data in patients with chronic heart failure of coronary and non-coronary genesis.
Material and methods. Thirty six patients with chronic HF were studied, mean age 52.41±1.6 years, among them 29 male and 7 female patients. The follow-up period of the surviving patients was 4.05±0.6 years. All patients underwent full examination: standard ECG with 12 leads, 6 minute walk test, echocardiography, Holter ECG monitoring, determination of galectin-3 in blood serum.
Results. Galectin-3 level in patients with chronic HF was 16.0–71,1 ng/ml (mean value 33.74±2.11 ng/ml). High level of galectin-3 was a significant predictor of the disease severity.
Conclusions. Our study has shown a correlation between galectin-3 levels and significance of cardiac remodeling, as well as life-threatening arrhythmias.
