The purpose of this paper was to investigate diagnostic value of magnetocardiography (MCG) index to assess the extent of myocardial damage in patients with acute coronary syndrome. All subjects examined were divided into 4 groups: first – 20 patients with anterior Q-wave myocardial infarction (MI), second – 14 patients with outcome in anterior non-Q-wave MI, third – 21 patients with unstable angina, control group – 23 healthy volunteers. Comprehensive MCG index CIQRS, consisting of 5 separate parameters, was developed. Additionally electrocardiographic (with calculation of the CIIS index) and echocardiographic examinations were performed. It was shown that the average value of the CIQRS consistently significantly decreased from the first to the fourth group. This index has the highest separating ability of all surveyed MCG, ECG and echocardiography parameters (H – Kruskal – Wallis test = 52.3). CIQRS was closely related to the echocardiographic index WMSI. In conclusion, MCG index is a promising new tool for the assessment of myocardial damage in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
