V.I. Zaytseva Pharmacological distinctions between beta-adrenoblockers: clinical consequences of carvedilol usage

The contemporary views on pharmacological properties of β-аdrenoblockers, features of their clinical application in cardiologic practice are presented. The group of β-adrenoblockers with vasodilating properties is described in detail, including information about features of carvedilol pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, combining β1, β2 and α1-adrenergic properties. High efficiency and safety of carvedilol, well-proven in clinical research, allows to use this drug for treatment of various heart diseases: acute myocardial infarction, stable angina pectoris, hypertension, hypertensive crises, suppression of ventricular ectopy, prevention of atrial fibrillation and flutter. The positive effect of medication is well proven in diabetes mellitus. Due to unique hemodynamic and metabolic influence, and also due to useful additional effects carvedilol became firmly established as a gold standard in treatment of patients with chronic heart failure.
