The aim of the study was to establish prognostic impact of cardiac structural, functional changes and lipid profile on adverse long-term outcome at late postinfarction period. 146 men survived myocardial infarction associated with essential hypertension. Among them, 20 men had postinfarction aneurysm. We also studied 39 agematched control subjects with coronary artery disease who hadn’t myocardial infarction. Patients received
aspirin, clopidogrel, simvastatin, bisoprolol and lisinopril. Myocardial function was assessed by high-resolution ultrasound. The end-systolic volume was an independent predictor of the development of 2-year mortality: the increase of this parameter by 1 ml increased risk by 4 %.
