Article reviews the features of catheter radiofrequency ablation as an effective, rapidly developing technique in the treatment of various forms of atrial fibrillation – the most common and clinically significant arrhythmia. The article discusses the immediate and long­term results of ablation procedures, including the issues of predicting the effect of the procedure, monitoring the safety and possible early and late complications, its effect on the risk of ischemic events and mortality; dilemma of choosing catheter ablation or antiarrhythmic therapy in the treatment of atrial fibrillation is also considered.
