This review presents recent data on the mechanism of trimetazidine action, its use in treatment of acute coronary syndrome, during percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass grafting. The results of clinical and experimental trials indicating high efficiency of trimetazidine in reducing the severity of myocardial ischemic and reperfusion injury are presented. The data regarding the use of trimetazidine for preconditioning are also reviewed.
