The purpose of our research was to study indices of heart rate variability in patients with paroxysmal and persistent forms of atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter on background of hypertension, chronic ischemic heart disease and heart failure. 167 patients (mean age 53.8±0.9 years) have been included into research: 113 patients with paroxysmal and persistent forms of atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter without significant structural changes of myocardium, 16 patients with hypertension and without atrial fibrillation / atrial flutter, 18 patients with chronic ischemic heart disease and without atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter and 20 patients of the control group (rather healthy young men, without any cardiac pathology). Atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter without presence of cardiac pathology is the factor worsening time and spectral indices of heart rate variability. In all three groups of patients with atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter without cardiac pathology, SDNNi, LF and HF decreased.
